Custom swim ponds, waterfalls, and fountains built to blend seamlessly into the landscapes of St. Thomas and St. John.

At VI Ponds & Fountains, every project begins with a simple idea—work with nature, not against it. The Caribbean landscape is one of the most beautiful on earth, and our job is to add water features that enhance it rather than impose on it.
Using the proven ecosystem approach developed by Aquascape-style systems, we create water features that function as living systems. Water, rock, gravel, and natural biological processes work together to create clarity, movement, and balance—without relying on chemicals or constant mechanical intervention.
We serve St. Thomas and St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, and have spent years learning exactly how to build water features that thrive in the heat, humidity, and conditions of the Caribbean. The result is a space that feels organic, established, and completely at home in its surroundings.

How It Works
Each water feature is designed as a complete ecosystem where every element has a purpose. Water is circulated, filtered through natural biological processes, and balanced through rock, gravel, and aquatic interaction.
Beneficial bacteria colonies housed in a pressurized filter break down waste continuously—no chemicals needed. The biology does the work, around the clock, every day of the year.
The pond basin is lined with washed gravel rather than bare liner. This dramatically increases colonizable surface area for beneficial bacteria and recreates the look and feel of a natural streambed.
A surface skimmer continuously collects leaves and debris before they sink and decompose. Removing this nutrient load is the single most important step in preventing algae growth.
Tropical water lilies, marginal grasses, and bog plants absorb dissolved nutrients directly from the water column—starving algae at the source while adding color and natural texture to every edge.
Why VI Ponds & Fountains
Here's what sets us apart.
Our ecosystem approach maintains water quality through biology, not chemistry. No chlorine, no pH adjusters—just living water that takes care of itself.
Tropical heat, UV intensity, salt air, and hurricane-season rainfall all affect how water features perform. We design specifically for St. Thomas and St. John—not mainland conditions.
We use hand-selected natural boulders, ledgestone, and tropical plants to create features that look organic and established—as if nature put them there long before you arrived.
A properly balanced ecosystem largely maintains itself. We size and calibrate every component so the system runs cleanly with minimal intervention from you.
From excavation and liner to stonework, plumbing, and final planting—we handle every phase of the build. You come home to a finished, running feature.
Every project starts with a visit to your property. We'll walk the site, study the terrain, and give you an honest, detailed estimate—no cost, no obligation.

Serving the USVI
Building water features on St. Thomas and St. John is not the same as building them on the mainland. The year-round tropical heat accelerates biological activity in ways that affect filtration sizing. The intense Caribbean sun degrades materials that would last decades in temperate climates. Hurricane-season rainfall tests drainage and structural integrity in ways most contractors never encounter.
We choose plant species that thrive in Caribbean heat. We oversize filtration for warm-water conditions. We anchor stonework to handle wind loading. We design drainage for the downpours—not the drizzle.
Optional ongoing maintenance programs are available after installation—covering routine pump checks, seasonal plant management, and annual service visits.
